BN’s Top Ten Albums of the Year Chart

As you’ve probably noticed, with the November issue, we alter the normal BN format to permit our writers and advertisers to have an increased input with regard to content.

Just as we did last year, our fifteen reviewers were invited to submit an annotated list of what they consider to be the top five releases of the year. (For reporting purposes the year runs from May 1-April 30). BN establishes its “Top Ten Albums of the Year” based on a numerical score accumulation. When each reviewer submits their top five albums, the album listed number one on their chart receives a numerical score of “5,” the second album receives a score of “4,” the third receives a score of “3,” the fourth receives a “2,” and the final album on their list, a “1.” In addition to receiving a numerical score based on where an album appears on the reviewer’s chart, each album also receives points based on the number of charts on which they appear. For example, if an album appears on the chart of ten reviewers, it receives a bonus of 10 points. —see page 40 for results.

While our tabulations are limited with regard to data accumulation, it should be noted that our reviewers listen to a significant number of new recording each year and are definitely qualified to offer an informed opinion.
